An ethical & beautiful jewelry Bag? I’m all about it.

If you’re anything like me, then you love a good travel accessory. When you’re constantly living out of a suitcase, you have to find creative ways to keep your things organized. For me, that’s endless packing cubes, zip locks, and (when I’m desperate) vacuum-sealed bags. When it comes to my jewelry, though, my strategy is abysmal. For so long I’ve used the “toss-it-in-a-bag” organization method. I’ve lost countless earrings this way and have spent hours untangling knotted necklaces. It’s not my best organizational work. So, when my friend Karine designed her very own traveling jewelry case to solve this problem, I knew it was pure genius.

The classic leather jewelry holder in vino.

Karine, the Founder of Lunar Method, lives in Mexico City. She was raised in Los Angeles by a Brazilian mom and an Ecuadorian dad. Culture, travel, and design have always been big parts of her life. Lunar Method, her company, is the intersection of femininity, conscious living, and travel.

Like all good products, Karine developed this concept when she herself was looking for a jewelry bag. She knew she was looking for something ethical and beautiful and wasn’t able to find anything that fit the bill.

"I choose to design a jewelry bag as our first product because I wanted to create something that was sustainable, luxurious and practical.

Almost everyone owes jewelry and it can be a pain to store while traveling, the Lunar jewelry holder allows for a practical and ethical way to store jewelry."

Here’s what I also love about this jewelry case: it’s ethically and sustainably made using cactus leather and it’s a woman-run company from start to finish. Pretty cool, right?

What the heck is cactus leather?

Cactus leather is a sustainable leather alternative made from Opuntia Cactus (also known as Nopal) that was been created in Mexico. The process of creating cactus leather is sustainable because it requires very little water, the plant reproduces its leaves quickly, and it’s cruelty-free. The leaves are cut, then they are mashed into a paste, and then they are sun-dried for 3 days. Afterward, the cactus mixture is mixed with non-toxic chemicals and attached to a backing.

Women-run? Tell me more.

Lunar Method is woman-founded and owned and is located in Mexico. The fabrics lining the beautiful cactus leather come from local artisan women. Lunar Method honors the work and dedication women artisans put into making our linings, by providing them with a fair wage and job security.
